fiddle leaf fig tree

Get in my abode! I have been admiring these trees from afar in many, many beautiful images of beautiful homes. I don't have a great idea of what the heck to do with any kind of plant... Has anyone noticed that I don't EVER talk about landscaping or my yard (gasp!) That's right... I'm one of those people who has NO clue what the heck to do with my landscaping most of the time. So-- until now I have shied away from anything green that would involve too much TLC in the abode- but things change. I can't go any longer without one of these fabulous trees in my life!

I love how most of these fiddle leaf fig trees are placed in baskets-- with a little lime green moss... so lovely and fresh!

Man, how the heck to you get a tree to grow like this INSIDE an abode? It's like a lovely little canopy! Does anyone else think that this look is simply dreamy?
There again, love that lime green moss... the pups aren't bad either!

This is Emily Henderson's fabulous final challenge in HGTV's show Design Star... This room is a-mazing. She added a fiddle leaf fig tree in her space and it's gorgeous! It is perfect with the sofa!

and here it is again...

Oh my... seriously, gotta get one of these...

I'm going to have to do some major research on how to keep these babies upright and green... That kind of thing doesn't come naturally to me unfortunately. I'm also going to have to find one! Where-oh-where can I get one of these big-leafed babies?

Hope all of you abode lovers out there have a great Monday!

  1. I don't have a green thumb either, and I refuse to have silk plants so I have nothing. I would love to have one of these in my home, but it wouldn't last a week here :(

  2. I'd love a large plant like this but I'm not sure how I'd get it home without spilling soil all over my car. But like Kendra, I abhor silk plants, they're dust collectors.

  3. It would die within minutes of my care... too bad, because they're beautiful!

  4. Love these! But I know my limitations, and keeping things alive is not my strong suit. In fact I'm not really sure how my kids are thriving so well. This is why planting is my husbands job, and weeding is mine.

  6. I have found them at Home Depot and a nursery in Atlanta called Pikes. They do like light I can tell you that. But they are not as fickle as the ficus tree!!!!

  7. Hi - I'm a new reader and just want to share that I have loved this tree forever! They do sell them at Home Depot for about $80-90, for a 4 year old tree, but I didn't want to spend that much for something I had no clue how to take care of, so I scoured Craigslist and got mine for $30! My plant is still young and not as 'leafy' as the mag photos, but the guy said that they require very low maintenance, just a lot of light. Maybe you can start looking on CL in your area. Good luck!

  12. I am like you and don't have a green thumb what-so-ever. However, I did get one of these Fiddle Leaf Figs at Home Depot {in LA} for about $14. This is the only plant that I have managed to keep alive for over a year. It is about 6 feet tall now. I recommend getting one - they are SUPER low maintenance! Good luck!

  13. What a fabulous tree. -I tend to think I have a green thumb, however everything mysteriously dies... although my little fern plant is still 'kickin' after it's first year in our home lol.

  19. I wish I could gather all of you and teach you how to take care of plants....it is easy with just a few easy steps. I know I could take the fear out...my grandmother always had a fiddle leaf in her house, so in her honor I always have one. I found one recently at Sam's for about 20 dollars. Always remember buying plants is not expensive when you compare them to flowers, they last longer and if they die, throw them out, and get another...the fiddle leaf trees are easy to grow. fiddle leaf plants are really vines..they are just trained to be trees. Plants are my specialty....I am not good at painting!!
