happy halloween & welcome to my office

So- in honor of it being Halloween, I would like to introduce all of my abode lovers to my office. "Why?" you ask... well, because it's orange and black. Yes. Orange and Black. Check it out....

The walls are a high gloss super light gray. The ceiling is a high gloss gray two shades darker. I wanted this room to be fresh and light- It's the smallest room in our abode- so sticking with lighter colors was something I felt would make the room feel larger. There are two pops of color... (orange and black) but I used them sparingly....

I haven't put that much into this room... there are a TON of things I would like to do with this room- at the same time, I know one day it will be a nursery- so I am on the fence about spending any more money on furniture for this space.

Mr. Husband and I LOVE this double desk.... we got a GREAT deal on it at the Alabama Furniture Market in Calera. They have really beautiful furniture, and if you can haul it away, you don't have to pay tax! Love it.
The chairs are from isn't everything in my abode from there? Originally, I had a sweet pair of ghost chairs (also from Overstock)... and then Mr. Hubbs broke one... Now the one ghost chair we have left is in the Man Mountain room. I like these... I call them our Jetsons chairs. The pillows are from Target... they're Christmas pillows from last year- but I think they work every day!
These are our lovely diplomas War Eagle! that my mom framed for us last Christmas. They are fancy-shmancy! I was a nerd in school, one of those students who was obsessed with grades, papers and design projects. A perfectionist would be an understatement... So I get great joy looking up at my diploma... especially where is reads Summa Cum Laude (toot! toot!) yes.. this is me, tooting my own horn... I told you I was a nerd!!!
This is Mr.Husband's work space... that's him in the frame swimming with Lady at Lake Martin :) The "M" of course stands for "Mr.Hubbs" and that little drawer piece was a recent purchase from Target! I got it on clearance for around $15. Thank you Target! I love old mason jars... my dear friend over at The Good Stuff turned me onto them- and now I love keeping supplies in them! Right now this jar holds business cards.
And this is my side... another old mason jar-- this time full of post-its.. (my favorite office supply by far). And yes.... that book on the bottom is titled "Lady, My Life as a Bitch" the funniest thing is that I purchased that book prior to owning my sweet cocker spaniel, Lady. The lamps on either side of the desk were $14 at Hobby Lobby on clearance... too good to pass up. I got the lamp shades from a little shop in Birmingham.... can't remember the name!
and here is your Halloween decor!!! The office system is from Pottery Barn... I would like to tell you that we couldn't function without it... but if you look closely, the date on the calendar is June. It's pathetic! I really thought we would use those... not so much. I love the little settee though- it's from Pottery Barn as well and fits our little nook perfectly! The wall to the right is chalkboard wall... people love to come over and draw on this... my siblings mostly. I decorate it from time to time... but for now it is decorated by my little brother.
Mister Husband grew up on Lake Martin in Alexander City- so when he saw this piece in a Birmingham shop- we HAD to buy it. I really like it- the orange canoe works great with our decor. I painted the top piece of art... I wanted something small with a lot of blue to contrast the orange. I like this sweet, little painting. The curtains you see are a clearance buy from Pottery Barn... Silk, pale gray- love them! I tied them up with a blue velvet tie back borrowed from the drapes in our master bedroom

And yes, since there are two Auburn diplomas sitting side-by-side in this space... there is a small "theme" running through this room. This pull from the fan was left here from the previous owners.... but since we are fans of Aubie... he stayed.
Last weekend when Auburn played LSU my little brother came over with my dad while we worked on the kitchen tile backsplash project- and this is what my kid brother (10 years old) did during commercial breaks... gotta love his enthusiasm. He just LOVES our chalkboard wall....

"we will win 100%" is my favorite statement.
 Happy Halloween Abode Lovers!

why i've been m.i.a. AND new furniture!

what is my problem? Well- I haven't been blogging as much lately thanks to the new "day job." I made a career move a few months ago- I drive a lot more, spend less time at home- but it's worth it! I am still finding my footing and trying to get used to all of the new changes.... With all that said- THAT is why I have been MIA lately. I am not less inspired- just busy! I am getting used to the new schedule- and I will be back to normal as soon as I can! (sooner than later I hope!)

So- don't you all want to know what ELSE I purchased for the abode? The first item was revealed last week.... after this item, there's only one more to go! Aren't you curious what the next piece is and where it will go???
and here is where this handsome big guy will be living...
and now... here is the SECOND item!

The Lyon chair from Restoration Hardware in Natural Army Duck: TA-DA!!!!!!
It's classic- comfy, but still small enough to fit in the space. I love that it has classic lines- I know I will have this chair forever!
and where will this beauty live??? Here of course! in the pink
can you say, "power couple?"
It will be MONTHS until I see these two together... I feel like I should have a beautiful chair wedding at the abode. I mean, she's dressed in white, beautiful, petite and charming. And he stands large, masculine and in the perfect shade of gray- I think I will do that! So- Save the Date... the chair+chaise wedding will be the highlight of the abode's year that's for sure! Maybe I could wear one of my old bridesmaid dresses... why not? What else am I going to do with all of them?

So- we are down to ONE more piece in my over the top shopping spree (that I will be paying for, for months to come...) What do you think it is? And where do you think it will live in my abode??

Have a great Thursday Abode Lovers!

feature friday: hardware fail, and chaise reveal

So, they're going back. For those of you who are a bit lost about what I am referring to... HERE is the previous post concerning kitchen hardware. I like them- but they're just not working with my cabinets. I apologize for the quality of these photos, but I was in a bit of a hurry- and now I am ready to ship these babies back. I have already ordered new samples from Home Depot, so I will update you in 5-7 business days! Also, I think I have decided that the Anthropologie knobs are just too over the top for my budget in the kitchen. (by the end of this kitchen overhaul, if I have Anthro hardware... don't judge me! I am trying my best to avoid them!!!)

I really love the handles against the tile and the granite, but the style isn't matching the traditional, glazed in gray cabinetry....

These knobs are cute- but they are just too small for my super large cabinet doors on my lower cabinetry...
and yes.... that is STILL the only little plot of tile on my backsplash! ha!
and now....  here is one of the fabulous items that I purchased lately- but it will be January or February before I have this delivered to my abode. I cannot WAIT!  Via Restoration Hardware, Toulouse Chaise- in Fog Army Duck
and where will this beauty live??? well HERE of course!
So happy to get to share part of my shopping spree... I will divulge more later! (Hint... that other leather slipper chair is getting the boot too, let the guessing begin!) I hope all you Abode Lovers have a fabulous weekend!

what is the same?

I received my kitchen hardware in the mail yesterday, I will post photos soon! Bur for now- I have something else to share! I have been keeping a little secret for a few weeks concerning my abode. I made a rather large (for me) purchase for my abode! I ordered 3 items that will be coming to me in the next 3 months... I love and hate the waiting game! So- I will reveal one piece at a time by dropping hints... what do all of these beautiful images have in common???

So, have you figured it out? Let me know what you think this new piece is, and I will tell you all what it is EXACTLY and where it will go tomorrow!

cabinet hardware help!

Hello Abode Lovers! So- remember when I had to explain to all of you that the kitchen re-do has been put on hold until I can call dibbs on Colonel Dad? Well... I have bypassed this hurdle and have still managed to make a little headway in the kitchen. I ORDERED NEW HARDWARE!!! I really thought that hardware would be something for the future because of the cost... my total came to $421.95 for the original Anthropolgie pulls and knobs that I had chosen... I mean, wow. I know they are like jewelry for the kitchen (and jewelry is important, very, very important), but I really didn't want to spend that much, at all. So- I am trying something else in hopes that it will be just as fabulous as my original, more expensive pick from Anthro. If I decide I don't like them as much- then I will simply send them back... but my fingers are crossed. I was able to get ALL of the hardware for just over $150.00 with shipping! That is huge! (just think of how many pillows and lampshades I would buy with that small fortune!)

I would love to hear honest opinions on this matter- I will of course take photos when I get them... but what is your reaction, right out of the gate? I am very curious!

original picks (expensive picks!)

and THESE are what I ordered! What are your thoughts? via

and here are a few images of the kitchen... remember?

I have really wanted either white, milk glass knobs, or white ceramic to tie in the backsplash. I really love the soft combination of cream, white and gray- so I am trying to tie the backsplash to the cabinets with the hardware.
and here is a close-up look of the cabinets that I painted... please, ignore the skank basket-weave knobs... they looked fine with the old, dark stone backsplash... but now, they look sad, dark and bland.
Now- I am ALL about honest opinions... but keep in mind that the milk glass selection is about $250.00 less than the anthropologie ceramic pulls... at the same time, we have put so much time, effort and money into this kitchen, what's a few hundred more bucks to finish it with a bang???

I will receive the new hardware sometime this week (hopefully) so I will post photos as soon as possible!

I'm looking forward to hearing from all of my Abode Lovers, I need help! Thanks!

anthropologie's snappy retort

what do I mean by snappy retort you ask? I mean, Anthro has made a pretty serious comeback after disappointing me with some of their early fall items. I've got to say, I really haven't been loving their rugs or their new upholstery. I used to dream of Anthropologie's upholstered chairs and rugs- and lately, in my opinion, they have not had that feminine and whimsical wow factor that usually goes hand-in-hand with Anthropologie's image! There are a LOT of heavy plaids and odd shag rugs that look like they would break my vacuum.... So- what did Anthro do? They could sense my feelings (because they are magical) and they came out with these beauties..... I am so glad- I thought I was about to have the "it's not me it's definitely you" speech... but I think Anthro is taking the steps necessary to bring happiness into my life once more.

check out Anthro's snappy retort to my feelings....

now this is what I'm talking about... quirky and feminine print- classic shaped chair with spindle legs. I would LOVE two of these in my master bedroom!

this is such a beautiful and interesting chair. The lines are light and delicate while the fabric is graphic and loud- makes a great impact! Also- this color combination would look great anywhere and everywhere.

(this is a comeback from the past... but some things are meant to be brought back...
this pillow is stunning!) How great would this pillow be sitting in the garvey chair?!

please oh please tell me how I can make this work in my abode... I want this.

gloria's garden rug                              spectrum roundup rug
The round rug is another comeback- it has been offered in a rectangle for almost a year now (I've been swooning over it for quite some time) but now it's offered in a circle- love it! The spectrum rug is just a nice pop of color in any room, since there are so many colors used, this rug could work well in any room that contains one or more of these colors!

and of course... a beautiful, tufted chair... I really love the natural color of this piece- the patterned trim is so exciting and understated at the same time... I adore this one... really.... and that stripe down the back?! Lovely.
Hope you are as excited about these pieces as I am! Have a wonderful hump day!
